The project
In March 2026, official consultations began for the construction of a new well in the village of Thiounéné. The project is made possible by the contribution of a private donor, Francesca Nocivelli, and is co-financed (85% by the donor and 15% by the Municipality of Merina Dakhar), with the aim of transforming the beneficiaries into active partners.
Following the initial technical inspection already carried out, the intervention will focus on the transformation of the existing infrastructure. A manual extraction well will be converted into an automated system powered by photovoltaics and equipped with a water tower. This technological innovation will overcome the limitations of manual extraction, ensuring constant water availability and adequate pressure for agricultural distribution.
The primary objective of the work is to support local food production. Thanks to the new water capacity, it will be possible to irrigate and manage a one-hectare community garden. This space will be dedicated to agricultural cultivation, providing the community of Thiounéné with a concrete tool to improve food access and promote the village’s economic development through agriculture.
