The project
In 2025, an old manual well, built in the 1990s, was converted into an automated system with a water tower, making it suitable for agricultural irrigation. The project was 85% funded by Energia Per lo Sviluppo and 15% by the local population.
This is our first co-financing project, a strategy widely used in international cooperation to transform beneficiaries into active partners. By investing their own resources, the community is more motivated to ensure the long-term maintenance and management of the asset, reducing dependence on external aid. The community decided to dedicate the well to the memory of Marcello Chelli.
- Thanks to this well, a one-hectare community garden has been established, providing a vital resource for local food security.
- The management and sustainability of the garden are guaranteed by the support of the Center for Territorial Development Promotion (a Senegalese entity), which ensures technical organization and daily monitoring of agricultural activities.
- The women of the community were trained in farming activities.
Grown in this garden:

Onions

Lettuce

Potatoes

Tomatoes

Eggplants
