In 2013, an old manual well built in the 1990s was transformed into an automated system powered by solar energy, making it suitable for agricultural irrigation. The well is part of the Armando Bondi project, created in memory of Armando Bondi, an EPS associate actively engaged in solidarity projects in Senegal. In addition to this intervention, the project also included the construction of 11 photovoltaic installations in other villages in the region, with the aim of promoting sustainable access to energy and water in rural areas.

The conversion of the well involved: the installation of a solar pump; four photovoltaic panels of 250 Wp each; two elevated tanks of 5,000 liters each, for a total of 10,000 liters.

  • In 2018, the system was converted into a château d’eau, a more efficient structure for water distribution.
  • The project was certified for the generation of carbon credits, thanks to the replacement of fossil fuels with solar energy.
  • The women of the community were trained to carry out cultivation activities.
